The buzzing Maho Village
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort is located in Maho Village, one of the main entertainment centers on the Dutch side of the island(St Maarten). The touristy street in front of the resort is packed with restaurants, shops, and bars. The island’s largest casino and popular Tantra nightclub are among the most notable attractions, both a six-minute walk away. The area is ideal for guests who like to stay in the center of the action, but it’s not the best fit for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
Along with its sister resort, Sonesta Ocean Point features direct access to Maho Beach. This small beach is located just in front of Princess Juliana International Airport, and offers an unusual opportunity to watch planes coast low over its white sands as they approach the airport runway. However, note that Maho Beach is small and gets crowded with guests from the other nearby hotels and resorts, as well as hawkers. The resort is located a 25-minute drive from the Dutch capital, Philipsburg, and a 20- minute drive from the French capital of Marigot.
Mullet Bay Beach can be reached in a 15-minute walk.
Opened in May 2015, Sonesta Ocean Point was designed as a more exclusive alternative to its adjacent sister property, Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino. Although the two resorts are joined, the contrast between them is unmistakable from the moment guests arrive. Guests at Sonesta Maho enter via the resorts’ shared street entrance, while guests at Ocean Point are whisked by golf cart to another lobby found at the back of the property.
